Labor Day weekend is a good time to move because it's an extended weekend, which makes for plenty of time to settle in and explore the area. And that I did!
The thing I was most looking forward to about living here is that I have access to anything. For instance, I was reading my usual blogs on Saturday morning and noticed the Mag Mile Shopping Festival was happening. The event was right up my alley and stocked with free stuff, so of course I wanted to check it out. Had I been living in the suburbs, a last minute decision such as this one wouldn't have been possible.
Another example of a spur-of-the-moment outing was later that night. My friend and I were walking along the lake when we remembered it was the last firework show of the season at Navy Pier, so we just continued our walk that way and enjoyed the always-wonderful fireworks. These are things you can't do outside of Chicago!
Back it up a day, on Friday, another friend of mine and I were heading toward Cone (the best ice cream place I've been to in a long while) when we spotted Nando's on our way. I've always wanted to go there, and there we were! If you order fries, definitely try the Perinaise (Peri-Peri Mayo) with them. I was hesitant, but it was sooo good!
These types of things are what I'm most excited about when it comes to living in Chicago. I'm so happy that my first weekend here was filled with exactly what I hoped it would be like living here.
Here's to all the weekends to come!
